The Art of Making Something Out of Absolutely Nothing… Except Maybe 47 Thoughts and a Voice Recorder.

October 27, 2026by Ashley Casper

Some people get into bed at night and wind down.

I apparently hold a press conference for the contents of my brain.

There are observations. Questions. Things that happen during the day. A thought that connects to another thought that brings several unrelated thoughts along without asking.

Somewhere in there is probably a story.

First, everyone needs an opportunity to speak.

I’m using voice-to-text and transcription tools to get those thoughts out. I sit in bed at night and talk through whatever is on my mind, without trying to organize every sentence as it comes out.

It can be random banter. It can be word vomit.

Occasionally, a point arrives on time. We celebrate those moments.

Then I use AI to help turn that sprawling collection of thoughts into writing that another human might reasonably be able to follow.

And right now, I’m turning that process into a blog… mostly with my voice and a few clicks here and there.

The part that has me ridiculously excited is how quickly I can get from a thought in my head to something finished and ready to share.

With illustrated rabbits.

What a peculiar fucking time to be alive.

Wait… I can actually finish something in the time I have?

The initial idea, brand, and layout take me roughly two hours to put together. I’m a bit indecisive, so some of that time involves deciding what I want… and then having additional thoughts about that decision.

After setup, I’m spending about an hour on each post. My word vomit takes a while. Apparently, the 47 thoughts each expect their own speaking slot.

About an hour to talk it through, shape it, and get something ready to share. That still has me pretty damn excited.

Mostly by speaking what I’m thinking, explaining what I want, and making a few clicks here and there.

I need a moment to appreciate how fucking cool that is.

I can talk through an idea, get help organizing it, refine the words, direct an illustration, and get something finished and ready to share without setting aside hours and hours for the whole process.

There are still choices to make. I still read what comes back, correct things, and decide what feels like me. Occasionally, a rabbit requires an ear audit.

But those steps are fitting into a small pocket of my day. The idea gets somewhere while I still have the energy to be excited about it.

That speed is giving me an actual opportunity to create during this season of my life.

Between earning income and everything else that needs my attention, finding several uninterrupted hours can be a big ask. Making room for about an hour at night to work on a post is something I can work with.

I can sit in my bed, use my voice, and move an idea all the way through to something I’m proud to put into the world.

Apparently, the creative department is open after bedtime. Pajamas are acceptable. Rambling is part of the intake process.

I’m excited about the technology because of what it makes possible for me: more finished stories, more room to express myself, and a way to keep creating that fits the life I’m actually living.

October 27 feels like a meaningful place to begin.

Today is my son’s birthday.

It’s also the day this idea really begins taking shape: a space for my stories, my questions, and the rabbit holes I keep finding myself wandering into.

That combination feels a little weird and pretty awesome at the same time.

The date already means something to me. Now it gets another beginning attached to it.

I don’t know exactly where this blog will go. But I want to mark the moment when the idea starts becoming something real.

The setting looks a little different than I pictured.

I’m building Ashley’s Creative Cafe… a space for making things, playing with color, and helping people give themselves room to create.

That still matters to me.

It also takes hands-on attention. There are things to make, experiences to develop, and people to reach.

The Cafe is still in its growth phase, and right now, I need steady income. So a substantial part of my time and energy is going toward deliveries and gig work.

Packages and groceries have entered the creative itinerary.

This isn’t exactly the arrangement I picture when I imagine how I’d like to spend my days.

But the creative part of me continues showing up.

It (the creative side of me that is) has opinions about the schedule, obviously. It would like more paint & collage time. It has submitted several requests.

In the meantime, it’s finding material wherever I happen to be.

Apparently, a delivery route comes with writing prompts.

There’s plenty to notice out there.

The people I meet. The kind things someone says. The unexpected moments that make me laugh or give me something to think about.

There are dogs who want snuggles, conversations I carry into the rest of my day, and situations that leave me considering how we treat each other when something goes wrong.

Then there are the podcasts, books, friendships, and all the other places my curiosity decides to make itself comfortable.

Some of it is funny. Some of it lands somewhere tender. Some of it opens a question I want to keep turning over.

The ideas come from deliveries and other life experiences.

Later, when I’m sitting in bed, they get their microphone.

The delivery routes or just life in general provides the material. The bed hosts the editorial meeting.

Important distinction. Different dress codes.

The first draft has very little respect for an agenda.

Speaking my thoughts gives me a different way into writing.

I don’t have to find the perfect opening before I’ve figured out what I’m trying to say.

I can explain something, remember another detail, change direction, and eventually hear the part that matters most to me.

That doesn’t mean the whole transcript belongs in a finished post.

Some thoughts are useful stepping stones. Some are scenic detours. Some probably need to remain between me and my iPhone.

AI helps me sort through it.

It helps organize the ideas, shape a structure, and work on the wording and flow.  I keep my jokes and the moments that make me crack up because we all need a more laughter in our lives.  We go back and forth. I add context, correct details, make my changes, and keep working until the piece feels like it's fully MINE.

My experiences give us somewhere to begin. The process helps me find a way to express them.

There are revisions. There are moments when I realize I haven’t explained what I mean clear enough.

Apparently, even the word vomit needs an occasional clarification meeting.

Then I’m giving the thoughts a website.

This is another part of the adventure.

I’m using plain-language instructions to help create and revise the blog itself.

Move this. Make that smaller. Give those paragraphs some breathing room. Please let people actually see the images on their phones.

I can describe what I want, look at the result, and keep refining it.

I’m also developing the visual world around the stories: our rabbit character, the settings, and whatever peculiar creatures these thoughts might require.

The images are AI-generated, with direction and revision from me.

Car interiors need to make sense. Furniture needs to be proportionate. Rabbits need the appropriate number of ears.

I’m finding a way to use my voice to help create the words, the website, and the visual pieces that accompany my rabbit holes.

That feels pretty fucking cool.

Curious about the setup behind this rabbit hole?

Builder by HBA is what I’m using to help create this blog. If this has you thinking about a little corner of the internet for your own ideas, you can check out Builder by HBA through my link below.

Bring your curiosity. The 47 thoughts are optional… although I suspect some of you already have those covered.

I’m nervous about sharing this.

My Facebook page is branded as Ashley’s Creative Cafe.

Now I’m doing deliveries, building a different website, and writing blunt, occasionally sweary stories about whatever captures my attention.

I know the experiences connecting those things.

But when I imagine someone else looking in, I start wondering how it appears.

Another idea? Another direction? What happens to the Cafe?

And there I am again, preparing answers for an imaginary audience before I’ve even shared something I enjoy making.

It’s exhausting.

Especially when I pause long enough to recognize what this actually gives me.

I get to create during a season when my time and energy have different demands.

I get to use my words. Tell my stories. Explore my questions.

I get to make something that feels exciting to me.

That deserves a little room before I start interrogating it.

The Cafe still has its place.

Ashley’s Creative Cafe gives my hands somewhere to play.

A Perfectly Reasonable Rabbit Hole gives my thoughts somewhere to wander.

Both come from me. Both involve imagination, expression, and the hope that something I share might connect with someone else.

Right now, deliveries help meet an immediate need for income. The Cafe continues to need attention as it grows. Writing gives me another creative outlet that fits into the spaces I currently have available.

I’m figuring out how those pieces work together.

I don’t have a beautifully labeled diagram explaining the entire arrangement.

I have an iPhone, some useful technology, and a willingness to keep making things.

That’s enough to work with tonight.

Perhaps “absolutely nothing” is an unfair assessment.

The title amuses me because it can feel as though I’m making something out of a pile of scattered thoughts.

But those thoughts come from somewhere.

There are experiences behind them. Things I notice. Feelings I need time to understand. Questions I want to ask.

There’s creativity looking for a way to be expressed.

Technology is helping me turn that into something I can read, revise, illustrate, and share… in a pocket of time I can actually find.

That possibility has me excited to see what else I can make. I can have the thought and give it somewhere to go while it’s still fresh.

So perhaps I should give the raw material a little more credit.

It’s here.

It just needs somewhere to go… and someone willing to sit in bed, press record, and let the meeting get wildly out of hand.

🐰 Highlight from My Deliveries

I’m wearing my Princess Trash Panda shirt that says, “It’s TrashCan, not Trash Can’t,” when one of the ladies I deliver to tells me she loves it.

A small moment of connection, courtesy of a trash panda with a surprisingly encouraging message.

I’ll take it.

Apparently, even my shirt is offering a pep talk. At least this one comes with a raccoon.
